환도 한국 전통도검 조선환도는 과연 어떤 칼이고, 어떻게 만들어지고 또 어떤 역사를 갖고 있는지를
소개합니다.

조선시대 선비들은 문인(文人)과 무인(武人)할 것 없이 ‘환도’하나 정도는 갖고 있었다고 합니다. 예리함 그리고 날카로움, 강인함의 상징 바로 ‘칼’입니다. 환도(還刀)불린 조선환도는 조선의 대표적인 무기이자 군도(軍刀)로 현대에 들어와서는 호신용이 아닌 애장품으로 여전히 많은 사람들의 사랑을 받고 있는데요. 특히 조선환도에는 일본과 중국의 도검에서는 볼 수 없는 특이한 요소가 여기 저기 숨어 있다고 합니다.

검신은 Kobuse 방식으로 10번 접은 folding steel로 내부는 연강 s400을
넣어서 연강의 높은 인장강도와 부드러움을 합쳐서 강하고 부드러움 도검이 됩니다.
검신은 전통적인 방법에 의해서 (Traditional Method ) 점토를 발라서 )Differential Clay Technique ) Quenching and Tempering 열처리(단조, 뜨임) 과정을 거쳐서
아름다운 Gunome midare hamon이 나타나는데 이때
검날(刃) 부분은 HRC 59정도 경도를 만들고 U자로 내부의 연강(30-35도)을 감싸서 강하면서도 베기시 충격없이 잘베어지도록 만들었습니다
